As an attending, you often feel that you've reached the light at the end of the tunnel. For me, it was being not just an independent practitioner but an unbounded thinker. One without financial stresses or administrative expectations, academic OR private, dictating my way of life. I'm still working on it.
No one can deny having looked back on their worn path many a time, nostalgic for the sunny, rewarding moments that helped them find their direction, their calling, their specialty. All the while lamenting the less-than-desirable interactions that have created the foundation to deal with tenuous encounters and the inevitable outcomes of our profession.
